Most people believe that Reiki's origins are from Japan. It is true that Reiki was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800's in Japan. However the origins of the techniques that are used in Reiki are a very ancient technology that reaches back thousands of years.
Reiki is spiritual in nature. However it is not a religion. Reiki has no dogma. You do not have to believe in order to learn and use Reiki.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words. Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy" make up the Japanese word Reiki. Some have defined Reiki as meaning "spiritually guided life force energy."
